Gender Justice, Everywhere

Missed the live session? Watch event webinar here:

Progress towards equal power and equal rights for women remains elusive around the world. No country has achieved gender equality. Globally, discriminatory laws, policies and attitudes remain common and ingrained. Approximately one in three women have experienced physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner. Women continue to be under-represented in decision-making roles that directly impact their lives, safety and well-being. In crisis settings, women often bear the brunt of violence, marginalisation and economic exclusion.

Gender Justice, Everywhere aims to showcase UNDP´s work supporting the rights of women and women’s empowerment through justice initiatives on the ground in crisis and post-crisis settings. We do this in  partnerships with civil society, government and other relevant agencies, especially UN Women. On International Women’s Day 2021, we will celebrate the power of these partnerships, and how they overcome challenges to achieve Gender Justice, Everywhere.

Three national experiences will be highlighted:

  • The Gambia – Women in the Transitional Justice Process
  • Pakistan – Transgender Rights
  • Palestine – Access to Legal Aid for GBV
    • Hanan Kamar – Sawasya Programme Specialist (Palestine)

  • Katy Thompson, Rule of Law, Security and Human Rights Team Leader, UNDP
  • Simone ellis Oluoch-Olunya, Regional Women’s Political Participation Advisor, UN Women
